When opposite poles attract, they seem to stay glued to each other for a pretty long time! Well, that is true for this incident at least...
I have this oversized tote I bought from a vintage shop (read, ukay-ukay) a couple of years ago. Its opening was fastened by thin, square magnets attached under the lining. As the bag became worn, one of the magnets fell from its place and is now somewhere under the bag’s lining. I had to improvise and affix a safety pin in its place so the other magnet could still serve its purpose. Eventually, that second magnet fell off, too, so I now have to make do with an open bag.
I now use this bag nowadays as an alternative laptop bag, whenever I don’t bring a car and would just like to carry all my stuff, including the laptop, in one bag. In the office, I would often put my bag under the desk, on top of this empty co-axial cable reel that I fancied as some sort of end table, and beside my new mobile steel drawer.
Today, while pulling out my bag from under the table, I felt some resistance and I thought I was in trouble if it has caught in the screws on top of the reel. Then I realized that the bag was stuck on the steel drawer. The magnets! All this time, I've forgotten they existed. I traced where they were and attempted to put them back where they used to be. Then I thought, this won’t work unless I find both magnets. This is just one of them…
Or is it? Because feeling it from under the bag lining, it seemed thicker than I expected it to be. No, these are the two magnets on top of each other. When one of them fell off from the edge of the bag, the other must have felt its magnetic pull and followed suit. And over time, they found each other underneath the bag. How sweet is that?
It’s the most romantic thing in the world it actually brings me to tears.
